Meet Dipakshi Sarma

My name is Dipakshi Sarma. I am passionate about community solutions to global conflicts. I am a queer, first generation immigrant in Minnesota. I came as an undergrad from Assam, India during a snowstorm, and frankly, I wanted to take the first flight back. But soon, with the community I built here, Minnesota became home. This sense of belonging drives my passion to work with immigrants, refugees, women, and other marginalized folks to create a better world together. I work as a community organizer at CAPI where I work on anti-displacement advocacy, community mobilization, immigration justice, and anti-Asian hate resilience trainings. I am also pursuing a Masters of Public Policy to better understand how marginalized folks like myself can leverage the policymaking process for justice. So, I hope to continue exploring international development mentorship in political violence mitigation and organizing in MN and internationally, likely back home in South Asia.
