You may have noticed that after five years as the Midwest International NGO Network (MINN), we have changed our name to the Minnesota International NGO Network (MINN). This change was made to more accurately reflect the focus and strength of our network, as we pursue a nonprofit IRS registry as a 501 (c) 3.
Minneapolis, May 19, 2011 - As part of its Sustainable Film Series, MINN members attended the screening of the documentary “Beetle Queen Conquers Tokyo” at the University of Minnesota on Thursday May 19th. The film explores Japanese fascination and interaction with insects – from butterflies to rhino beetles.
It's a great opportunity to both exercise your leadership skills, increase your contacts among others that work in the international sector and add "Board Experience" to your resume.
This is an opportunity for someone to become the Communications & Technology Committee Vice Chairperson to eventually become the Chairperson of the Committee. In terms of time commitment, we suspect it is about a five hour commitment per month.
Midwest International NGO Network has filed its paper work to become a 501(c)3 with the IRS. The decision was made late last year year by the Steering Committee to file for the 501(c)3 status in order to better position MINN for the future. This effort was led by a three person team of Ken Schamberger, Paul Hanscom and Karen Baumgaertner. MINN was also fortunate to receive pro-bono legal assistance from Robert Stuart and his colleague Jessica Manivasager from Fredrikson and Byron, P.A.. So what will this mean for other MINN members? At their last event, MINN members braved ice and snow to gather with friends and colleagues over a hearty, Mideast inspired lunch. A group of 26 came together at Holy Land Restaurant in Northeast Minneapolis to share stories and catch up with one another.
These lunchtime gatherings provide an opportunity for NGO professionals from dozens of organizations to share best practices. Every meeting provides an incredible display of the talent and dedication found right here in the Twin Cities for causes that reach every corner of the globe.
