We're looking for our next Volunteer Manager

MINN is a collaborative, team-oriented, mission-driven workplace. The Volunteer Manager is responsible for effective recruitment, onboarding, and management of MINN’s potential and current volunteers. MINN volunteers provide support and leadership for MINN programming throughout the year, including the annual MINN Summit. 

Founded in the spring of 2005, the Minnesota International NGO Network serves to connect all international humanitarian and development practitioners and supporters based in Minnesota, through education, networking, and information resources. Whether you are new to the world of international nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) or a seasoned veteran, MINN is your forum to connect with colleagues and stay aware of what other NGOs based in Minnesota are doing around the world.

Job Type: Part-time

Salary: $300 monthly stipend

Hours: 18-22 hours monthly 






  • Attend 6 board meetings per year

  • Develop reports and metrics as needed for board decision-making; providing regular progress updates and plans for action items

  • Respond or acknowledge emails and questions in a timely manner (24-72 hours)

  • Seek input and assistance from the Board of Directors as relevant

  • Attend monthly supervision check-ins with the Vice President

  • Attend monthly calls with the MINN Leads team


Recruiting Potential Volunteers 

  • Monitor responses to the volunteer web form and reply to interested volunteers

  • Communicate with potential volunteers about the specific volunteer expectations

  • Determine the strengths and interests of potential volunteers and meet with them to outline available roles

  • Promote MINN volunteer opportunities on other websites and at community events/hubs related to volunteerism or international development in Minnesota


Onboarding New Volunteers 

  • Hold monthly volunteer orientation sessions, virtually and/or in-person

  • Agree on a role for each volunteer that matches interests, needs, availability, and acknowledges the required time commitment 

  • Facilitate the introduction of volunteers to relevant team members for continued onboarding 


Administration and Documentation 

  • Maintain a master list of active and non-active volunteers and their contact information

  • Maintain documentation of volunteer roles that need to be filled 

  • Communicate with the MINN Board about volunteer coordination, procedures, and suggestions for improvement

  • Coordinate with MINN leadership to identify specialized volunteer needs (i.e. social media or data entry volunteers)


Volunteer Recognition

  • Collaborate with the MINN Board and Leadership on planning the annual recognition event and periodic efforts towards volunteer recognition throughout the year 




Minimum Qualifications

  • Interest in or experience working with any of the following: international humanitarian, aid, relief, development, or MN-based immigrant communities

  • Experience supervising or managing volunteers

  • Ability to collaborate with board members and other team members remotely

  • Clear and effective communication and strong interpersonal skills, both verbal and written

  • Experience with Google Suite and Zoom 

  • Ability to work independently, show attention to detail, and assume responsibility for self-directed projects/tasks

  • A one-year commitment 


Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience coordinating volunteers for a nonprofit, for-profit, or governmental agency

  • Prior experience with MINN, either through attending events or through volunteering.


Additional Information


This position reports to the MINN Board Vice President and works closely with MINN Leadership, including the Communications Manager, Membership Manager, and Program Manager. 


As MINN does not have physical office space, this position is entirely remote. This position requires regular access to a computer and internet connection.
